Write for us
Open Current Affairs welcomes pitches that make a public issue clearer without making it smaller. We are interested in careful explanation, useful context, and subjects that will matter to readers beyond a single news cycle.
What we welcome
Pitch explainers about institutions, policy ideas, global connections, public debate, or the longer history behind current concerns. We also welcome essays that clarify a question or compare distinct ways of understanding it. We do not seek professional advice, unsupported hot takes, or stories that depend on access to confidential information.
What makes a strong pitch
Tell us the central question, why a general reader might care, the main points you would explain, and what makes your approach distinct. Include relevant experience or sources you expect to use, but do not imply access or expertise you do not have. A concise outline is more useful than a finished article sent without context.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Please include your pitch in the message; proposals sent through another route may be missed. A pitch is a proposal, not a promise of publication, and we may ask for changes before accepting a piece.
Context is part of the story.
A public issue rarely begins or ends with a headline. We make room for the background, the competing ideas, and the questions still taking shape.
